elebrate the cold rainy season by donning timeless fall items that are not only dashing but also joyously warm and cozy.

Here, Alvin Dwipayana, fashion editor of InStyle Indonesia magazine, helps us scoop out the perfect pieces that will elevate your style.

Granny-style cardigan. A comfy loose cardi with simple detail and minimal motifs appears effortlessly hip when paired up with the latest fashion items. For a cool office look, Alvin recommends wearing the cardigan with a feminine blouse or A-line skirt. “You can also combine it over a summer dress worn with tights for a total snug look,” adds Alvin. To get a more feminine silhouette, top it off with a skinny cinch belt over the cardi.

The big knit. Beat the cool temperature with a thick knitted sweater; a no-frills key item that fits any occasion. And dare to experiment with bold colors, such as putting a forest green, royal yellow or red. Update your outfit by incorporating the sweater with major runway trend pieces. “A masculine-structured blazer worn over the sweater instantly displays a formal attitude during the day, whereas for evening dates, wide-leg pants make an elegant partner for the sweater,” advises Alvin.

Leather jacket. Nowadays, as Alvin describes, a leather jacket has become a wardrobe staple, which can make any woman appear utterly sophisticated. Apart from matching it with a blouse and straight-cut pants, Alvin recommends mixing the leather jacket with a printed scarf and high-heel pumps. Or, you can be adventurous by complementing a dark leather jacket with a bright-colored dress, a skinny belt and those “it” leopard print heels.

Cropped tweed jacket. Block a sudden chilly breeze with this elegant wool jacket. You can easily slip it on for work in the morning over a silk top and cigarette pants or a simple sheath dress. Pin a chic corsage or jewel brooch on the jacket or dress it up with a layered pearl necklace for a classic Coco Chanel spin. Or, choose a cropped three-quarter-sleeve tweed jacket and jazz it up with a big-statement bangle.

Sweater dress. It’s a must-own clothing item that perfectly caters to every individual character; either it’s slightly loose or figure-hugging, cowl-neck or high collar. “The long-sleeve sweater dress is a versatile piece that can be combined over a tailored shirt for daily office wear or worn with leggings and cute ankle boots for relaxed outdoors getaways,” describes Alvin. You can also spruce up a sweater dress with a long multi-chain necklace or a wide leather cinch belt.

Trench coat. With much varied coat lengths, shapes and fabrics used, the trench coat is a definite classic item worth investing in, especially when you’re in need of a quick fashion fix. “This is one of my all-time favorite clothing pieces for the rainy season,” says Alvin. “This year, interesting vivid shades, like cobalt blue, fuchsia and tangerine get the hottest attention for trench coats,” he says. You can cuddle in an uber-stylish trench coat with slim-fit trousers, short dresses with tights or jeans. And don’t forget to roll or gather the sleeves up for an effortlessly cool modern look.
