AKARTA: The chairman of the Democratic Party has kicked off a five-day tour around Java to visit Islamic boarding schools as part of the party’s Ramadhan program.

During the trip, which started on Monday and is expected to wrap up on Saturday, Anas Urbaningrum is accompanied by the party’s secretary-general, Eddie Baskoro “Ibas” Yudhoyono, the son of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The schools Anas will visit include Marga Sari in Bandung, West Java, Tebu Ireng in Jombang, East Java and the Bangkalan Grand Mosque in Madura.

During his stopover in Yogyakarta, Anas and his entourage are expected to have a breaking-the-fast dinner with Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

“This program will also serve as part of the party’s internal consolidation move,” member of the party’s central board Herman Khaeron said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
