(Kapanlagi.com)Entering the world of entertainment through modeling, Hamba Ramanda, popularly known as Yama Carlos, finds comfort in acting. Yama’s latest film project is Rectoverso, where he plays alongside Indonesia’s long-time sweetheart, Sophia Latjuba. The 32-year-old has taken roles in several films, including Ruma Maida (Maida’s House, 2009), in which he got nominated for Best Leading Actor at 2009’s Indonesian Film Festival (FFI). Besides acting, Yama reveals he loves sports, simply because his sporty parents have been encouraging him to master sports since he was 4 years old.
“I’d say sports and traveling are my hobbies when I’m off work. I go backpacking, too.
I haven’t traveled that much, but my most memorable holiday trip was to Sabang Island in Aceh. I’m basically into sea swimming and diving, and I also love the beach.
I just got married and I haven’t had the chance to enjoy a honeymoon, so I’m planning to go to Sabang again someday with my wife.
Sabang has a clean beach and clear water, I think it’s more like Raja Ampat [in Papua], and I’m speechless about their gorgeousness. If you’re willing to explore Indonesia, you won’t need to go overseas just to enjoy clean beaches.
One of my dream destinations is Raja Ampat. It would be an awesome trip. But first, I need to save up because Raja Ampat has become an international tourist destination and it will be costly.
I also still hold on to a plan of visiting Palawan in the Philippines. I’ve heard that it has such a clean and beautiful beach just like Sabang Island and Raja Ampat.
For sports, I have a love of basketball and water sports, like swimming, diving and snorkeling I just started to like diving, so I haven’t got a license yet.
My love of beach and water sports is pretty much because of my parents. At the age of 4, they introduced me to swimming and they signed me up to a swim club.
In my family, mastering swimming is a must. I think it’s a good family tradition, because our earth is filled with more water than land. If bad things happen, at least we have one of the basic skills to survive.
In my school years, my parents introduced me to various sports from tae kwon do, tennis to basketball. I ended up doing basketball. I also go to the gym – not for the urban life trend, but to support my basketball activity.
I also have a shoe collection for one particular brand, Nike. I have about 100 pairs or more now. This hobby is actually related to basketball. When my father encouraged me to play basketball for the first time, he made me go to a basketball club and bought me a pair of Nike shoes.
Since then, I’ve been crazy about this brand, and continue the habit to this day.”
