Malaysian student arrested for smoking marijuana

Yogyakarta Police have arrested a Malaysian university student, identified as SFK, who was caught smoking marijuana.

'€œThe suspect, who is enrolled at a university in Yogyakarta, was apprehended at his boarding house in Ngemplak, Sleman. He is the son of an oil tycoon from Selangor, Malaysia,'€ said Yogyakarta Police narcotics director Sr.Comr.Widjanarko on Wednesday.

SFK is one of 28 people arrested during a month-long operation by the Yogyakarta Police narcotics division, which took place from March 17 to April 17.

'€œThe 28 suspects were arrested in 12 different locations in Bantul and Sleman regencies and Yogyakarta city,'€ said Widjanarko.

Ten of the 28 suspects were arrested for using shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine).

During the operation, police also confiscated leftovers of shabu-shabu and hashish, funnel tubes to inhale the crystal meth, cell phones and Rp 100,000 (US$10.3) in cash.

Widjanarko said his division had informed the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta about the arrest of their national, since when the embassy had sent its officials to visit the Yogyakarta Police.

'€œWe are investigating all the cases to uncover drug rings in the province,'€ said Widjanarko. (ebf)
