Newcomer Tanta Ginting stepped into the film industry with a confident footing, nailing the role of Sutan Sjahrir '€” one of the five main roles in Hanung Bramantyo'€™s upcoming film, which centers on the country'€™s founding fathers, Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka!.

'€œThe Soekarno film [set to premier in December] is my first major film. I was involved The Raid 2: Berandal, but only as an extra. I do have a lot of TV experience, most notably hosting Tarung, a martial art television show on KompasTV.

My ultimate goal is to become a producer or director. However, my academic background is electronic engineering and I'€™m not planning on going to drama school, so I will have to learn on the job while I'€™m working. In fact, I have been very lucky to have polished up my acting through the musicals I have been involved in.

I cannot say much about my next big thing after Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka! I have to be given clearance before I talk about it.

Besides being involved in film I am also in a band called Fourwall. We have been playing together since I attended university in the US.

When I returned to Indonesia, in 2008, we had big plans to release an album. But all our lyrics were in English, so it was tricky. When I started to become occupied with my musical projects I left my band days behind me.

I'€™m thinking about working on the delayed album in Indonesian language.

In my spare time I practice martial arts. After hosting Tarung, I discovered Krav Maga [a tactical martial system developed in Israel] and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu [a martial art, combat sport and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting]. Now, I am totally addicted.

For me, Krav Maga is a perfect way to build up fighting morale, it helps me with my work on Tarung '€” where I have to practice a certain martial art for several days before I fight.

One day, I'€™d like to participate in a [US-based] mixed martial art program.'€
