Australian man arrested for stealing, burning car in Bali

The suspect previously caused a commotion in a club and choked another foreigner before stealing the car.

n Australian man, identified as WRJ, was arrested in Bali after allegedly stealing a car and lighting it on fire. The man, from Hobart, Tasmania, also hit another foreigner in the driveway during his escape.

North Kuta Police chief Comr. I Ketut Agus Pasek Sudina said on Monday that victim I Ketut Wijaya Kusuma filed a police report against WRJ for allegedly stealing the victim’s car.

“The foreigner was under the influence of alcohol,” Agus said.

The incident happened on Sunday at 1:30 a.m. local time at The Club Bali om Jl. Batu Belig in Kerobokan, North Kuta district, Badung regency.

WRJ stayed at a villa near the club, the Villa Mana in Eden The Residence at the Sea in Seminyak.

Agus said that police had questioned several witnesses, including victim Ketut Wijaya who lost his Toyota Avanza. Ketut Wijaya was working at the club that night as a security guard.
