AKARTA: The 17th edition of the Apple Coal Jakarta International Sixes cricket tournament finished with a bang, beating the rain, with the cup being won by the Asiatic Smashers and the plate being jointly lifted by local team Senayan Tigers and Malaysian team Penang SC.

In the cup finals, the Asiatic Smashers (45/1) beat the Fez Rebels (44/2) by 5 wickets at Cibubur. Earlier in the cup semifinals, Fez had knocked out defending champions the Nexian Ryders from Singapore. The plate final was full of drama, with the Tigers and Penang tied at 57/2 in 5 overs. Both teams had also scored identical '€œruns of the bat'€, which was the next criteria. In the end, they were declared joint winner.

JP Le Riche (Fez) with 121 runs was declared the best batsman while Pramodh Raja (Nexian) with 5 wickets, including a hat-trick, was declared the best bowler of the tournament. Ali Asghar (APC United) hit 7 sixes '€” the maximum number of sixes.

'€œIt is six-a-side and so we have the name '€˜Sixes'€™. Thirty games were played over two days, with each game consisting of 5 overs and each over consisting of 5 balls. A total of 12 teams, including overseas teams, participated in this 2-day extravaganza'€, said Sixes coordinator Avakash Lohia.

'€œIt was a sports carnival with music, food and drinks all thrown in. All teams donned specially designed batik for the matches'€, said media co-coordinator Deepak Khullar.
