our students who were reported missing on Mount Bawakaraeng, Gowa regency, South Sulawesi, were found alive on Tuesday. They are currently receiving treatment at Tinggi Moncong community health center (Puskesmas), in Gowa, for exhaustion and injuries.

The climbers, who had been missing since last Thursday, are all students from Makassar '€“ Ikhsan Sangkala, 17, from state vocational school SMK Negeri 7; and Muhammad Setiawan Ramadhan, 16; Muhammad Andra Pratama Putra, 17; and Aldi, 17, who attend private senior high school SMU Mahaputra Makassar.

Search operations for the missing students began on Friday.

Adolfina Rante Padang, a member of the Hasanuddin University'€™s search and rescue (SAR) team, which was involved in the search operation, said the students were found by residents of Tinggi Moncong. They were found separately at two different times and locations.

'€œIt was Andra who was first discovered, at around 9 a.m. local time. The three other students were found around 12:30 p.m.,'€ said Adolfina.

Residents found Andra near a river in Biroro, Malino. Andra had come to the area to seek help from local residents to rescue his friends '€“- Aldi, Ikhsan, and Setiawan '€“ who were too weak to walk. The three students were located near Topidi waterfall, some distance from Biroro.

'€œWe immediately evacuated the four students and brought them to the Tinggi Moncong Puskesmas for medical treatment as they were too weak and some were injured,'€ said Adolfina.

The four students began their ascent on Jan. 12, however, missing person'€™s reports were only filed on Thursday. (ebf)
