tate-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan hasappointed state-owned diversified mining firm PT Antam'€™s operations director,Winardi, as PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium'€™s (Inalum) president director.

'€œWinardi is the president director of Inalum ['€¦] he graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology in metallurgy,'€ Dahlan said in Jakarta on Thursday after leading a weekly state-owned enterprises (SOE) meeting at Graha Mandiri, as quoted by Kontan.co.id.

The minister said that Winardi had the capacity to develop projects at Inalum as well as to increase the firm'€™s production without having to import raw materials.

'€œThe newly appointed president director has to support the development of Inalum in the future [...] he has to participate in developing an alumina refinery in Mempawah [West Kalimantan],'€ Dahlan continued.

Inalum, which runs the only aluminum smelter in Southeast Asia, was previously owned by Japan'€™s Nippon Asahan Aluminium (NAA) consortium under a 30-year contract between Indonesia and the consortium. The contract expired on Oct. 31 last year.
