n its bid to help foster nationalism among the young generation, Gadjah Mada Unversity (UGM), in cooperation with the Indonesian Geography Association (IGI) and the Geographical Information Agency (BIG), released an NKRI map on Friday.
The map is of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and was officially issued by the IGI. It has a scale of 1:5,000,000 and will be distributed to schools.
'This year we will distribute 5,000 copies of the maps to various schools,' IGI chairman Suratman said on Friday.
The distribution began on Friday at Caturtunggal elementary school in Depok, Sleman regency, Yogyakarta and will spread to other schools, especially at the elementary level.
Suratman expressed hope that the map would give geographical insight to the young generation, saying that geographical understanding was expected to revive nationalism that had recently faded.
From 2015 to 2016, 40,000 copies of the map will be distributed to schools across the country.
