Tebet residential area gutted by fire

Densely populated residential areas in Menteng Dalam in Tebet, South Jakarta, saw a fire rip through the area on Monday morning.

At least 15 fire engines were deployed to fight the flames, nine houses were destroyed.

Tebet Police spokesperson, Adj. First Insp. Recky Tansil, said that there were no fatalities and the police were still investigating the cause of the fire.

He said that based on initial information, the fire was due to a short circuit.

Resident Galuh, 13, said he had lost everything in the fire, including clothes bought by his parents for Idul Fitri.

'€œMy mother said that God would replace my burned goods with better ones one day,'€ he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
