he Central Java provincial administration is workingtogether with the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) to build a commercial airportin Purbalingga regency.
'I'm optimistic the airport will be operable by 2017, as a deal between stakeholders has been struck,' Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo told the media on Friday.
'A number of interested parties are involved in the project, including the provincial administration, the TNI-AU and five neighboring regencies, which have agreed to a budget of Rp 100 billion (US$8.6 million),' he added.
Ganjar said the commercial airport would be an expansion of the existing Wirasaba Air Force base in Purbalingga regency.
He added that the Transportation Ministry was currently drawing up the plans for the airport, with the approval of the Air Force through its deputy chief-of-staff. The final agreement, said Ganjar, had been decided through a joint meeting with all stakeholders on Tuesday.
'The project will commence in 2016, and hopefully the airport will be open by 2017,' he said
