he Kebayoran Lama Police nabbed a father and daughter identified as AS, 54, and NNA, 24, at a rented house in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Wednesday for alleged online shopping fraud.

South Jakarta Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Surawan said the arrest followed a report from resident Albert Satriyo Wibowo who pressed charges against the suspects for allegedly defrauding him of Rp 77.5 million (US$5,819).

Surawan said Albert had transferred the amount to AS and NNA, both residents of Bandung in West Java, as a down payment for a Rp 150 million Hermes bag displayed on fictitious online shop jgadore.com. However, Albert could not contact the suspects afterward.

The pair was believed to have used pictures from the Internet to post on their website. They tried to lure customers by offering much lower prices for the products.

The father and daughter were charged with extortion and fraud as stipulated by Article 378 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum of four years'€™ imprisonment.

'€œTo all residents, please be careful with cheap online products and always check whether they are real,'€ Surawan said.
