Taman Safari Indonesia in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java, is inviting the public to participate in its animal foster parent program.
'The program aims to encourage people to care for the animals, especially endemic or native Indonesian species,' said the zoo's director Frans Manansang on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Through the program, the public will have the opportunity to closely interact with their adopted animals.
'Foster parents will be able to pick a name, give the animals food and visit them,' said Frans.
He added that state-owned mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) had participated in the program, recently fostering a one-month-old male baby elephant named Goldy.
All the baby animals are kept in a nursery room at the zoo's animal hospital.
'Hopefully we will be able to find other parents for these endemic Indonesian animals,' said the zoo's public relations head, Yulius H. Suprihardo. (kes)(++++)
