ity secretary Saefullah said that the Alexis Hotel in Ancol, North Jakarta, a hotel known for its strip club, may be closed if it is found to be allowing prostitution-related activities.
Saefullah said that the Public Order Agency and the Tourism and Culture Agency must monitor and check the hotel for any prostitution-related activities.
'Hotels are not allowed to host prostitution-related activities. We must also keep tabs on hotels, not just small localities such as Kalijodo,' Saefullah told reporters at City Hall Monday.
The Jakarta administration is set to evict residents living in the Kalijodo red-light district, an area located in North and West Jakarta, next week. Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that the reason for clearing out the area was to build a green space, although the plan seems to have been triggered by a recent deadly vehicle crash allegedly caused by a driver who had been drinking in the area.
Saefullah said that a nightclub would be closed if proven to have allowed drug activities more than twice. A similar policy, he said, should be carried out for hotels hosting prostitution-related activities.
