ouse of Representatives Commission IX overseeing demographic affairs, health, manpower and transmigration has rejected a price hike proposed by the government's health insurance scheme, organized by the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan), because of supposed insubstantial reasoning on the part of the government.

"I am very disappointed because the government could not clearly explain or take responsibility for the price hike. For this reason, House Commission IX asks that the increase be delayed," said House Commission IX member Irma Suryani Chaniago on Thursday as quoted by Antara News Agency.

Irma said the performance of the health insurance scheme was dissatisfactory and therefore the Commission had asked BPJS Kesehatan to review four points before approving a price increase.

First, improve general health services. Second, increase the number of independent subscribers to improve the performance of the BPJS Kesehatan itself.

Third, conduct audits on financial reports and budget expenditure. Finally, highlight the importance of the distribution of the premium payment assistance beneficiary card.

According to Irma, if the aforementioned points were not addressed or fixed by BPJS Kesehatan, House Commission IX would refuse to agree to a price hike. (liz/bbn)
