s the activity of Mount Kerinci in Jambi has increased over the past week, hundreds of people have been forced to cancel plans to spend New Year’s Eve on the country’s highest volcano.
“Many have canceled their trips to Mt. Kerinci because of the latest activity of the volcano,” Goes to Kerinci travel bureau owner Rangga said on Thursday.
The company has also been forced to cancel hiking packages for late December until the New Year and refunded those who had booked tours.
Areas within a 3-kilometer radius of the crater of the volcano have been closed to the public by Kerinci Seblat National Park and Mt. Kerinci Monitoring Post authorities.
The volcano was still spewing ash as of Thursday, leaving a coating of ash on houses and plantations.
