akarta deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno is exploring the possibility of a zero percent down-payment scheme for housing in Depok, a satellite city of Jakarta.
“The zero percent down-payment scheme will be aligned to areas around Jakarta,” Sandiaga said after meeting Depok Mayor Idris Abdul Shomad on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co, referring to his and Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan’s controversial campaign promise, seen by many as impossible to realize in the capital.
The scheme is expected to enable low-income people to own their own homes. Sandiaga claimed that businesspeople had responded positively to the zero percent down-payment scheme.
“There are some businesspeople who provide homes priced Rp 350 million (US$26,000) to Rp 450 million with zero percent down-payment,” Sandiaga said.
The program would begin once Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga were inaugurated as Jakarta governor and deputy governor in October, he added.
He said 60 percent of Depok residents commuted to Jakarta every day. (wnd)
