he North Sumatra Police have recorded a total of 12 traffic accidents with six casualties over the past three days during the operation to secure Christmas and year-end holiday, dubbed as Operasi Lilin (Operation Candle) Toba.

North Sumatra is one of the provinces with a large Christian population, even though 65 percent of its population is Muslim.

Three travelers suffered from severe injuries while 14 others were wounded as a result of the accidents that occurred between Dec. 23 to 25, North Sumatra Police Spokesperson Adj. Sr. Comr. MP Nainggolan said as reported by Antara news agency.

On Dec. 23, the police recorded three traffic accidents in Toba Samosir regency and Deli Serdang regency, in which two travelers were killed.

Three traffic accidents occurred on Dec. 24 in the two regencies and in Binjai, a city nearby Deli Serdang. In the accident in Toba Samosir, a university student was killed.

Christmas Day on Dec. 25 saw the highest number of accidents, with six accidents and three people killed, including a 14-year-old girl, and nine others wounded.
