T

welve victims of the Thamrin and Kampung Melayu bombings in Central and East Jakarta have demanded the government provide compensation for the losses and medical expenses they suffered.

During a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday for Aman Abdurrahman, the suspected mastermind of the 2016 bombing attack on Jl. MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta, Laili Harlina requested Rp 571 million (US$41,000) in compensation for the loss of her husband who was killed during the attack.

“My husband died two days after the incident. I seek Rp 571 million in compensation for my loss,” she said as quoted by kompas.com.

Several other victims, Maisi Sabadiah, Khairil Islami, Dwi Siti Romdoni and Frane, who were at Sarinah Starbucks during the attack on Jan. 14, 2016, also made requests for varying amounts. Maisi requested Rp 237 million, however the Witness and Victims Protection Agency (LPSK) noted that she would only receive Rp 41 million in compensation.

Other victims who sought compensation were Agus Kurnia and Muhammad Nurman Permana, as well as police officers Budiono and Suminto.

Three victims of the May 2017 Kampung Melayu suicide bombing in East Jakarta, Dame Siahulu, Susi Afitriyani and Nugraha Agung Laksono, have also requested compensation.

Presiding Judge Akhmad Jaini said that the court would take their requests into consideration.

“I can’t promise the court will grant [their requests],” he said.

Aman Abdurrahman, a radical cleric believed to be the most prominent Islamic State ideologue in the country, is suspected to be the mastermind behind several bombings and attacks in Jakarta and other cities. (vla)
