wo alleged scalpers selling commuter line tickets were arrested at Depok Station in West Java on Monday, amid an upgrade to the station’s electronic ticketing system.
Train operator PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) apprehended the two alleged scalpers, who committed to selling commuter line tickets, said KCI communications chief Eva Chairunisa.
"One commuter who bought tickets from them has given a statement," she said.
Following e-ticketing maintenance conducted since Saturday, commuters have had to line up for paper-based tickets on Monday since multi-trip cards are temporarily revoked.
Contrary to an earlier statement from the suspected scalpers, ticketing officers at the station did not give them 50 tickets to resell, according to Eva.
The alleged scalpers reportedly took turns buying 50 tickets, each for Rp 3,000 (US 21 cents), directly from the ticketing counters before reselling them for Rp 5,000 each.
No station officials took part in their scheme, Eva said, but any violation would result in immediate termination.
"Station officials who participate in ticket scalping will be immediately fired," she said. (rfa)
