Railway operators PT KAI and PT KCI signed an MoU with East Japan Railways Company on Monday, extending the two countries’ partnership in railways.
tate-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and its subsidiary PT KAI Commuter (KCI) will continue their partnership with East Japan Railways Company (JR East) following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Tokyo on Monday.
The MoU was signed by KAI human resources and general affairs director Suparno, KCI president director Assdo Artriviyanto and JR East senior executive officer and director general of international affairs headquarters Shunzo Miyake. The partnership will be effective for one year until Dec. 31, 2024.
“This MoU is a renewal of a partnership that has been carried out in previous years. The KAI Group continues to synergize with world-class companies, and one of them is JR East, which is experienced in the field of Japanese railways with an excellent reputation for safety, service and punctuality,” said KAI president director Didiek Hartantyo in a written statement on Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
According to Didiek, the new agreement involves training and education, procurement of train facilities and spare parts for maintenance, transit-oriented development, exchange of skilled personnel based on request, exchange of information and solutions in train problems and other fields.
"Hopefully this MoU can provide added value to both KAI and JR East. This collaboration is also expected to be able to support KAI's efforts in improving KAI's human resources skills and running trains with zero accidents, so that more people use trains as their main transportation," said Didek.
Didiek said the partnership with JR East was a prominent milestone for human resources development in KAI Group. He also believes the partnership will strengthen the maintenance system for railway facilities to remain reliable, thereby providing safety for passengers. Both countries have been supporting each other in terms of the railway operator workforce.
The KAI Group, Didiek added, aimed to keep improving train safety by, among other measures, maintaining all facilities correctly. This collaboration with KR East will ensure the train maintenance system is always reliable.
