People living along the banks of the Ciliwung River in Jakarta should anticipate increased water flow from Bogor.
he Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency issued an early warning over the increasing water level at the Katulampa sluice gate in Bogor, West Java, on Monday evening.
"Residents living along the banks of the Ciliwung River in Jakarta should anticipate increased water flow from Bogor," agency head Jupan Royter said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
Jupan said the rain that hit Bogor and its surrounding areas on Monday evening had increased the Katulampa water level drastically by 100 centimeters.
The water level is likely to keep increasing if rain hits Bogor again on Tuesday, where water flow from the area may reach Jakarta in six to nine hours.
The agency warned of rising water levels in a number of areas, namely Srengseng Sawah, Pejaten Timur, Rawa Jati, Bale Kambang, Pengadegan, Cikoko, Cawang, Kebon Baru, Bukit Duri, Bidara Cina and Kampung Melayu.
The agency distributed information on the increased water flow to district heads and residents in the areas, as well as announced it through social media, Jupan said. (ars)
