T

he Jakarta Traffic Police will continue rerouting traffic in several areas around key election-related offices in the capital in anticipation of further postelection protests in the capital.

“We will maintain some road closures. We will notify the public when we consider that the situation has returned to normal," Jakarta Police traffic law enforcement unit head Comr. Muhammad Nasir said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

Among the affected areas in Central Jakarta are Jl. Imam Bonjol where the General Elections Commission (KPU) office is situated, Jl. MH Thamrin and Jl. Majapahit next to the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office and Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat where the Constitutional Court is located.  The Traffic Police will also reroute traffic around the House of Representatives complex.

At least eight people were reportedly killed in the two days of postelection riots last week, while some 700 protesters have received medical treatment at several hospitals. (das/dmr)
