TKCC, Metro Indians, Emerio CC register key wins

With just eight games left in the GMIS JCA league, all the spots except Division 1 leaders are still open in what has turned out to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent history. Key wins by the Texmoda TKCC Royals and Metro Indians this weekend made the battle even more open.

The Metro Indians won a last ball thriller against Senayan CC to improve their chances of avoiding relegation to Division 2. The two key partnerships of Syed Kabir and Amar Kapadia and Rakesh Gowda and Maneesh Dubey were key in ensuring that Senayan CC got to a fighting score of 191 for nine in their 35 overs. Syed Kabir’s knock helped resurrect the innings after the loss of the openers, while Rakesh Gowda’s big hitting gave a final overs impetus where 80 runs came of the last 10 overs. Kiran Mandhare was in peak bowling form for the Metro Indians, claiming five wickets for 38 runs.

David Surjit and Raj Kapadia opened up the Metro Indians top order, claiming three quick wickets. A patient revival then followed in the form of a 90-run stand between Kirubasankar and Arya Pastika. Raj Kapadia returned to break this crucial partnership and soon, the Metro Indians looked out of the chase at 116 for six.

A brilliant rear-guard partnership then ensued between Sabu Joy and the explosive Sakthi Narayanan to bring Metro right back in the game. Thirty runs were needed in the last three overs with just three wickets in hand, but 23 runs came of the 33rd over as Sakthi Narayanan belted three big sixes to virtually seal the game. There was some excitement as Praveen Janghel claimed two wickets in the last over, but Sakthi Narayanan held his nerve to get the two runs needed off the last ball to take his team to a thrilling win.

The WISCI Wanderers took on the Texmoda TKCC Royals in a crucial battle that would influence the runners-up of Division 1. Rajeev Rajeswaran got WISCI off to a decent start, but Gorav Pathak struck back with two quick wickets. Vinayak Sasitharan then played a crucial anchoring knock as wickets regularly fell at the other end and some late-order impetus from Naresh Gupta ensured WISCI finished at 143 for six in their 20 overs. Jimmy Bumb was TKCC’s best bowler on a day when slower bowlers did well.

The guile of Rajeev Rajeswaran accounted for the TKCC openers cheaply and at 36 for three in the eighth over, WISCI looked well in control of the game. A brilliant 91-run partnership between Rajesh Santhanam and Vishal Garg coupled with the lack of a fifth bowler, gave TKCC a comfortable win in the end.

Emerio CC walloped the Rebels CC by nine wickets in their T20 game on Sunday. The consistent form of Vivek Elankannan continued for the Rebels as he and Gaurav Tandon got their team off to a decent start. Vishal Hirgude, who was getting shape off the wicket, triggered a mini collapse to prevent big acceleration as the Rebels finished on 125 in their 20 overs.

A combination of very good batting by Ghufran Khan and Palwinder Singh and some woeful catching by the Rebels made it a very comfortable chase for Emerio CC, who reached the target with nine wickets in hand.
