Bogor Botanical Gardens in West Java are set to host a marathon on May 20-21 as part of its 200th anniversary.
The race, the route of which will cover the garden area including the pedestrian track around it, is expected to attract 1,000 runners from inside and outside the country.
Among the foreign participants are said to be runners hailing from Australia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Germany, Malaysia, France, Singapore and Taiwan.
Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto said on Wednesday that the event would also help promote Bogor in the national and even international level as a city of runners.

According to kompas.com, Bima himself will also participate in the race in the 21-kilometer (21K) category.
Meanwhile, the race director Rudi Rochmansyah said the most challenging category, the 200 km (200K), would have to be completed over 36 hours. "The 200K category is also very prestigious and unique since it has never been done before. The runners will have to complete the category by circling the inner part of the garden 24 times and outer part 20 times," he added.
In addition to the 21K and 200K, the race will also offer 5-km, 10-km, 50-km and 100-km categories. (vod/kes)
