T

he Jakarta administration is working with the Formula E electric motorsports organizer to reschedule a 2024 race after the capital city was dropped from next year’s roster.

Formula E published the 16-race calendar for next year on Oct. 19, revealing that a race scheduled for Jakarta on June 8 would not happen.

According to the race organizer Formula E Operation (FEO), the Jakarta E-Prix was dropped because of a scheduling conflict with the campaigning period for the upcoming presidential election.

The organizer referred to the campaigning window ahead of the presidential runoff from June 2 to 22 if none of the three candidates win more than 50 percent of the vote on the Feb. 14 voting day.

The campaigning period would have too many impacts on the logistics of hosting a third Formula E-Prix on the streets of the capital. Reports emerged earlier this year that the Jakarta administration was planning to move away from the Jakarta E-Prix Circuit in Ancol, North Jakarta, which hosted the previous two races, and would use the city’s thoroughfares, including Jl. Sudirman, as the circuit.

City secretary Joko Agus Setyono said he would discuss the cancellation with city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), which was assigned to organize next year’s race.

“We need to evaluate this cancellation because we have already paid the commitment fee to host the race for three seasons,” Joko said on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
