View all search resultsMount Bromo in East Java is set to host the annual Yadnya Kasada ritual on July 9 to 10.
Held on the 14th day of the Kasada month on the Hindu lunar calendar, Yadnya Kasada is a ritual practiced by Tenggerese Hindus.
The Tenggerese make offerings such as livestock, fruit and vegetables to Hindu deities by throwing them into the crater of Mount Bromo.
“The Tenggerese observe Yadnya Kasada for a month, with the main activity on July 9 to 10,” said Tourism Ministry archipelago tourism marketing development official Esthy Reko Astuti.

Jetak village in the Bromo area will hold a two-night torchlight parade, a Wadya Bala STKW concert and Gunungsari mask dance, Pepe Bainea Ri Gowa dance and Jaranan Campursari performances.
“The event will also feature traditional art performances by the Tenggerese, such as Sendratari Kidung Tengger, Kidung Tengger poetry reading, Jaranan Wahyu Tunas and others,” Esthy said.
Artists from outside of East Java, such as from Bali and Bondowoso, are also scheduled to perform at the event.
A photography competition called Bromo Exotica is also being held. (kes)
