he pride of Indonesia, the National Monument (Monas), has been lit blue to mark the start of Education Festival that is going to be celebrated throughout the month.
The festival was opened on Sunday night, kicked off with a book monologue of "Belajar dari Ki Hajar" (Learning from Ki Hadjar) and "Budi Dr. Sutomo".
Ki Hajar, or also known as Ki Hajar Dewantara, was a leading independence activist who promoted education for Indonesians during the Dutch colonial era. Playing as the important hero in the country's education history was the Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister, Anies Baswedan, who was wearing traditional Javanese outfit, accompanied by Reza Rahardian. The latter took the role of eponymous Indonesian political organization founder Budi Utomo, which is considered significant to Indonesia's awakening.
The monologues challenge the audience to change Indonesia’s future education for the better by taking lessons from these two national heroes.
Using the motto "Semua Murid Semua Guru" (All Students All Teachers), the festival aims to encourage everyone to keep motivated in continuing their studies and taking part in Indonesia’s education.
A series of activities will be hosted throughout the month, including discussions about bullying, coaching workshops that stimulate creative online-preneurship, educational film screenings and many more.
Supporting these activities, there are six collaborators that will be involved, including Kampus Guru Cikal, KeluargaKita, Inibudi.org, Youth Manual as well as 90 communities spread across the country. (kes)
