aylor Swift will soon be the star of a new graphic novel, Taylor Swift: Girl Detective, in a spin-off from the classic Nancy Drew detective series. Written by Larissa Zageris and illustrated by Kitty Curran, the book is about an out-of-work actress in New York City who discovers threatening messages on her skinny mocha Starbucks drinks.
The book’s full title, Taylor Swift: Girl Detective — The Secrets of The Starbucks Lovers, is a play on a frequently misheard lyric from the singer’s popular song “Blank Space”: “all the lonely Starbucks lovers” (which is actually “got a long list of ex-lovers”).
So, why Tay?
“Her publicity is focused more on her own derring-do-ishness and accomplishments than her sex appeal, much like a modern day Nancy Drew,” Kitty Curran told time.com. “She also used to dress exactly like Nancy Drew, though now she looks maybe more like the updated 1980s version.”

Additionally, the story features New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde as Tay’s “muscle”. The creators said that, although Lorde was a badass, she was so ethereal and poetic that making her the tough one in the book appealed to them as they needed a foil for the more poised, level-headed detective Tay.
Although the graphic novel is not affiliated with or authorized by the multi-Grammy award winning singer, she does follow the Tumblr for the book, according to Zageris and Curran.
Currently, the pair is running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the printing of the book. In July, supporters of the project will get a printed or PDF version of the novel. The creators are considering making the books available both online and in print, depending on demand. (sab/kes)
