Review: Matt Damon as Jason Bourne still strong as ever The movie shows that Damon is still capable of making a good action film. (www.jasonbournemovie.com/-)

T

he newest addition to the Bourne franchise, Jason Bourne, brings back the directing talents of John Greengrass and the action star potential of Matt Damon for another one of their classic action thrillers.

As the fifth movie of the franchise, hopes were high that Greengrass would bring something new to the table after wanting to restart a franchise that had seen a lull of nearly a decade. Unfortunately, the movie does not manage to present anything new and is just another classic action movie.

In any case, the plot is more convoluted than in the previous editions and has the same type of villain, with the same motivations. Although if you are a fan of the Bourne franchise and want nothing to change, you will probably find this movie enjoyable.

The constantly changing shots is a trademark of Greengrass as a director as he uses these to emphasize the fragmentedness of the original Bourne movie and also to keep the film from being just a classic action movie by incorporating different angles and directions to help the audience find the scenes more thrilling. However, it also tends to alienate audience members who are not able to handle the fast-paced scene changes.

As for the movie's plot, the motivations of each character are forgettable, especially Julia Stiles, who plays Nicky Parsons; not that she was given a lot of time to connect with the audience anyway. Heather Lee, played by Alicia Vikander, is also quite dull and her reasons for teaming up with Bourne appear very vague and sudden. Tommy Lee Jones’ portrayal of director Robert Dewey is decent; he plays the role required in this movie, and that is of the stubborn, old and manipulative action movie villain.

On a more positive note, the movie shows that Damon is still capable of making a good action film. The movie's action and fight scenes are also great. Many of the plans Bourne hatches to escape situations are still smart and engaging. The fight scenes never have a dull moment and Damon does a great job of portraying the character of Bourne.
