Singer-actor Han Geng thinks playing the role made famous by Stephen Chow is a huge challenge.
The 32-year-old actor has been chosen to portray Monkey King, the lead character in A Chinese Odyssey Part Three. The role was previously played by Chow in the previous films A Chinese Odyssey: Pandora’s Box and A Chinese Odyssey: Cinderella.
According to kompas.com, Geng thinks of the role as a challenge since Chow “played it splendidly 21 years ago”.
The ex-member of Korean boyband Super Junior also claims to be a fan of the previous films.

A Chinese Odyssey Part Three was released on Sept. 15 in China last year and reportedly raked in up to US$36 million in its first five days in the theaters. Aside of Han Geng, the Jeffrey Lau film also stars Tiffany Tang, Jacky Wu Jing and Karen Mok.
The film tells of a love story that transcends time and space. It was aired for the first time in 1995 with Chow as Monkey King and actress Athena Chu as Zixia.
A Chinese Odyssey Part Three is set to be aired on cable TV channel Celestial Movies on Monday. (mas/kes)
