Indonesian pop/jazz band Krakatau Reunion rocks the audience at the Indonesian Festival in Moscow, Russia on Sunday.

Trie Utami, vocalist of the six-member band, even greeted the audience by saying 'spasiba', Russian for ‘thank you’, to thank the audience for their overwhelming support and enthusiasm. “Krakatau Reunion is very honored to have been able to perform in Moscow,” Trie said as quoted by tempo.co.

The other five members of the band include Indra Lesmana and Dwiki Darmawan on the keyboards, Gilang Ramadhan on the drums, Donny Suhendra playing guitar, and Pre Budhi Darma playing the bass.

In keeping a fun, playful atmosphere on stage, Trie opens the show by apologizing to the Russian audience for not being able to speak Russian, before playfully saying a quick prayer asking that the audience will be able to learn and speak Indonesian soon.

The band played in Hermitage Park, where they were sent by the Boyolali administration in Central Java to represent the region at the Indonesian Festival.

On stage, they played a number of songs, including "Perjalanan" (Traveling), "Mata ke Mata" (Eye to Eye), "Anyer", "Pengharapan" (Hope), "Kau Datang" (You Came Along), and "Seraut Wajah" (One Face). In addition to the number of songs that featured Trie's mesmerizing voice, the band also played some instrumental pieces that had hints of both jazz and ethnic influences.

Originating from Bandung, the band was formed in 1986; their name inspired by the Krakatau mountain that lies in the Sunda Strait. The mountain’s eruption had been so powerful that its dust even reached Europe in 2013. The name ended up becoming something beyond mere inspiration, but it also became prophetic.

Krakatau played shows all the world, traveling to countries across Asia, Europe, North America, and even South America.

Dwiki explains that they had actually performed in Moscow eight years ago, in celebration of the anniversary of the Indonesia-Russia bilateral relationship. This was back when they were known as Krakatau; before the band disbanded and got back together, rebranding themselves as Krakatau Reunion, in 2013. (tha/kes)
