oberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, the brother of drug lord Pablo Escobar, asked Netflix to change its security protocol following the death of series Narcos’ location manager Carlos Munoz Portal in Mexico last week.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , Gaviria reminisced on how he and his brother escaped from security without using any guns in a jungle. “If you have the intellect, you don’t need to use weapons. If not, you have to,” Gaviria said. “In this case, Netflix should provide hitmen to their people as security.”

“I don’t want Netflix or any other film production company to film any movies in Medellin or Colombia that relate to me or my brother Pablo without authorization from Escobar Inc.,” Gaviria warned. “It is dangerous. Especially without our blessing. This is my country.”
Despite its success, Narcos seems to not receive any approval from the Escobar family. Last year Sebastian Marroquin, Pablo Escobar’s son, wrote in a Facebook post that the series was “insulting to the history of a whole nation”.
Last week, the body of the series’ location manager was found with gunshot wounds in a remote area near Hidalgo. It was reported that he was scouting locations for Narcos and the motive of his murder is still unclear. (wir/asw)
