oogle has launched Google Assistant in Indonesian for smartphones. The digital assistant is able to do various activities, from sending text messages to finding a restaurant and citing the five principles of Indonesia’s ideology, Pancasila.
Users can access Google Assistant by tapping and pressing the Home button or saying “OK Google” on devices that support this feature. It is available for smartphones with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and above and iPhone with iOS 9.1 and above.
Besides asking “Apa yang bisa kamu lakukan?” (What can you do?), there are other questions that you can try as well, like “Kasih lelucon” (Tell me some jokes), “Ingetin aku beli jeruk nanti jam 6 sore” (Remind me to buy oranges at 6 p.m.), “Telepon Ibu” (Call Mother) and “Bacakan horoskop saya hari ini” (Read me my horoscope for today).

Back in August last year, Google Assistant was first launched in Google’s smart messaging app, Allo. “Now, with its presence on millions of smartphones in Indonesia, we hope Google Assistant will make users’ activities easier, starting from setting up an alarm, setting up a reminder, playing music on YouTube, getting directions from Google Maps and other activities,” said Veronica Utami, head of marketing of Google Indonesia, in a press release.
Moreover, in order to make it more useful, now developers and companies can create apps through developer platform Actions on Google. Some apps have been made for Google Assistant and, in order to access the service, users only need to say, “OK Google, bicara dengan [the name of the app]” (OK Google, talk to [the name of the app].
Among the apps that can be accessed are Joox, Kaskus, Klikdokter, Mobile Legends and VIRA, the virtual assistant chat from Bank Central Asia (BCA). (wir/mut)
