ith the possibility that geopolitical divisions and protectionist measures may prompt countries to develop alternative operating systems, Google’s Android says it is prepared for increased competition.
“We always view competition as a good thing, and we’re open for it,” Google Android and Play strategy vice president Kara Bailey told The Jakarta Post and Kompas on Monday.
“We want developers, OEMs [Original Equipment Manufacturers] and users to have choices,” she added.
With a global market share of 70.8 percent as of March 2024, according to market research firm Statcounter, Android has been the market leader since 2011. However, Google acknowledged the need to stay competitive.
“We're already in strong competition with Apple's iOS and others,” Bailey said. “This just means we have to continue working hard to improve things for developers and, ultimately, users.”
