hoto- and video-sharing social networking service Instagram is more than just a social media application for posting selfies and garnering likes, apparently. It has also become an advertising platform where brands trust celebrities to promote their products.
For a long time now, Instagram has played a vital role for brands, influencers and celebrities to generate income.
The headquarters of Instagram planner and scheduling tool Hopper recently revealed that reality TV star/entrepreneur Kylie Jenner is now the highest-paid Instagram celebrity. With 110 million followers, Kylie’s per-post valuation is a whopping US$1 million (Rp 14 billion). That is higher than actress Selena Gomez’s, whose Instagram account has 139 million followers, more than any other account. Selena’s cost per post is $800,000.
According to Finance Buzz, a website that provides financial tips and free advice, some brands pay between $5 to $10 per thousand followers for a sponsored post. Meanwhile, there are also other brands that offer up to $100 per 100 followers or simply pay for the advertising with freebies. If someone has 500,000 followers, for example, he or she can charge around $2,000 to $3,000 per post when endorsing a brand in front of his or her followers.
This year’s statistics reveal that more than just having many followers, an Instagrammer must keep posting and maintain a good amount of interactions. Hence, he or she continues to build an audience while strengthening his or her own brand and image, which attracts brands and companies to collaborate.
Just a year ago, Kylie was fourth on the Instagram Rich List. But she managed to rise to the top of the list, outdoing her sisters Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner.

Interestingly, the top 10 do not only include celebrities from the entertainment business, but also famous soccer players like Cristiano Ronaldo, who made it to third place, Neymar Jr. in eighth, followed by Lionel Messi in ninth place.
