Chris John's camp seeks rematch in Jakarta

T

he management of Indonesian boxer and WBA featherweight world champion Chris John is seeking a rematch against American Ricardo "Rocky" Juarez in Jakarta in June.

"*Chris* is the champion. The home crowd will definitely give Chris the advantage," Chris' manager and trainer Craig Christian told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

"I say he would win 10 of 12 rounds in a rematch in Jakarta against Juarez."

He added Chris would surprise his home supporters with a four-week power training course before the rematch. "It'll be extraordinary," he said of the possibility of a rematch in Jakarta.

Christian also plans to get Chris a shot at WBC super featherweight world champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines.

"I'm certain he could beat Pacquiao," he said, adding that they would be supported in the promotion.

Chris made his American debut under Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Productions (GDP) with a five-year contract. However, the promoter will host only Chris's bouts in the US.

GDP reportedly agreed to host the Chris-Juarez rematch in either Las Vegas or Los Angeles.

Chris dominated Juarez in Houston, Texas, last Saturday, but the bout was declared a draw, which meant Chris retained his title.

It was Chris's 11th successful defense of the WBA title since 2003.

"Chris did great in terms of performance. But how can you beat an American boxer who has 19,980 supporters, while you only have 20 Indonesian supporters?" added the Australian trainer.

Christian said that whenever Juarez countered Chris' attacks, the crowds would scream and shout as if Juarez was doing the punching.

"Such conditions benefited Juarez in terms of points."

"But in my point of view, Chris deserved points from eight rounds out of 12, because he attacked ferociously and counterattacked well enough by maintaining his distance," said Christian, who has been training Chris since 2005.
