BOGOR: To ease traffic congestion, Bogor municipality will implement a shift system for public minivans next month.
The plan has been in the pipelines since 2008, said head of the transportation, communication and information agency Achmad Syarif, as quoted by Antara.
Under the new shift system, public minivans will take turns in operating, thus reducing the number of vehicles on the roads at any one time. Achmad said the system was expected to decrease competition and increase drivers' income.
"It won't be minivans waiting for passengers anymore, but the other way around," he said.
Ngtem (minivans) waiting for passengers often create traffic jams. A shift system also implemented in Sukabumi, West Java, was considered a success. - JP
