JAKARTA: Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri dismissed rumors that the PDI-P might join President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s ruling coalition
AKARTA: Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri dismissed rumors that the PDI-P might join President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s ruling coalition.
“There is no way [the PDI-P] will join the ruling coalition,” Megawati said at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday.
Democratic Party member Ruhut Sitompul previously said the President would likely replace Golkar ministers in his Cabinet with PDI-P members in a possible reshuffle.
Relations between the Democratic Party and Golkar have reportedly soured after political wrangling in the House.
Megawati said the party had decided to remain in opposition to Yudhoyono’s government. “I have said this many times in party congresses. This is our political stance.” — JP
