AMBI: Singapore, which is often blanketed in thick smog produced by forest fires in Indonesia, says it is continuing to monitor haze from forest fires in Jambi province in Indonesia and its surrounding areas.

Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia Ashok Kumar Mirpuri said on Tuesday that it had been working with the Jambi provincial administration since 2007 to monitor forest fires in the area.

“We’ve been cooperating with Jambi province for four years through the [Indonesian] Environment Ministry,” Ashok said, adding that this included monitoring forest fires in the province.

In 2009 the Singaporean government provided a grant of fire fighting equipment to the province. — JP
