AKARTA: Jakarta’s Corruption Court sentenced Putranefo Alexander Prayogo, the president director of PT Masaro Radiokom, to six years in prison for graft surrounding an integrated communication system transaction at the Forestry Ministry.

Putrenefo, who was also fined Rp 200 million (US$23,000) and required to reimburse the state for losses of Rp 89.3 billion, has seven days to decide whether he will appeal the sentence handed down by the team of judges led by Nina Indrawati.

Putranefo was convicted for violating Presidential Decree No. 80/2003 concerning Objective, Fair and Transparent Tenders. Putranefo was also found guilty of marking up the cost of a radio system in his transactions with the forestry ministry.

Slamet Yuwono, Putranefo’s lawyer from OC Kaligis’ law offices, said some facts were not taken into account by the judges. “There is a conflict of public interest here,” he said.

One of the judges, Sofi Aldi, dissented, saying he felt that Anggoro Widjojo, the owner of PT Masaro Radiokom, should pay the fine. Anggoro Widjojo is currently a fugitive in connection with a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigation.— JP
