Wearing miniskirts is a human right: Dhani

AKARTA: Singer and songwriter Ahmad Dhani disagrees with Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, who urged women not to wear miniskirts in angkot (public minivans), to avoid rape.

“I think, wearing miniskirts is okay. It’s a human right. The problem is with those [people] who are watching it,” The 39-year-old leader of the band Dewa 19 was quoted by okezone.com on Friday.

Dhani urged people not to ban women from wearing miniskirts. “Don’t forbid women from wearing miniskirts. The problem is also that the state has not yet been able to protect its citizens.”

Last week, hundreds of women staged a rally at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Jakarta to protest the Governor’s statement.
