AKARTA: The City Council said on Wednesday that it would take a while before it could approve the change in status of the Transjakarta Busway Management Board (BLU).
Selamat Nurdin, chairman of the Council’s Commission B on transportation affairs, said the council had received a draft bylaw from the administration to upgrade the BLU to a city-owned company.
“However, we’re still evaluating and discussing the plan with the administration.
“A company has different characteristics from a city-owned agency,” said Nurdin, a politician of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
The councilor said that the administration had to decide which assets would be controlled by the new independent entity.
Activists and experts have said that upgrading the BLU’s status would give it more authority, allowing it to serve commuters better.
