SBY swears in 26 new ambassadors

span class="inline inline-left">New envoys: Twenty-six new Indonesian ambassadors take an oath at the State Palace on Wednesday. They will immediately begin their duties in their designated countries. JP/Ricky YudhistiraPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono swore in 26 new Indonesian ambassadors to fellow countries on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the State Palace.

The 26 new envoys will immediately begin duties in their designated countries following the ceremony, which was also attended by Vice President Boediono, Supreme Court chief justice Harifin A. Tumpa, People’s Consultative Assembly deputy speaker Lukman Hakim Saefuddin and Cabinet ministers.

The 26 new envoys include Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, who becomes ambassador to the Netherlands, Desra Percaya as the permanent representative to the United Nations in New York,  Prianti Gagarin Djatmiko Singgih as the ambassador to Venezuela in Caracas.

Deddy Saiful Hadi was appointed Indonesian ambassador to Qatar and Saut Maruli Tua Gultom as ambassador to Ecuador, while Andradjati was named ambassador to Senegal in Dakar as well as to the Ivory Coast, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Gabon, Congo, Guinea, Mali and Sierra Leone.

Mayerfas assumed a post as the new ambassador to Vietnam and Budiarman as the ambassador to the Vatican, while Elias Ginting will become the ambassador to Finland as well as to Estonia.

The president also appointed Teiseran Foun Cornelis ambassador to Cuba in Havana as well as to the Bahamas and Jamaica, Subijaksono Sujono as ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, R. Prayono Atiyanto as ambassador to Azerbaijan, and Andri Hadi and Sukanto as ambassadors to Singapore and Oman, respectively.
