AKARTA: Presenter Deswita Maharani officially registered her marriage to actor Ferry Maryadi on Friday. The couple had a siri (unofficial) marriage ceremony last month.

Deswita said the couple decided to have a siri marriage first because they wanted to marry in the presence of her mother, Kusyeti binti Harun Imam, who at that time was hospitalized for liver disease.

The wedding was conducted in the ICU unit of a hospital in Kuningan, Jakarta, where Kusyeti was hospitalized. She died six hours later.

“It felt tense because the wedding was at the ICU, it felt different,” Ferry said.

Deswita is the former girlfriend of Indonesian badminton champion Taufik Hidayat.
