(Antara/Didin)Five more suspected terrorists linked to a recent bomb plot in Poso, Central Sulawesi, were killed in raids by the National Police’s counterterrorism squad Densus 88 in two areas in West Nusa Tenggara about 24 hours after the squad killed two others in South Sulawesi.
Two of the suspects were killed on Friday at around 7 p.m. local time when police stormed a hideout in Sila Rato, Bima regency, West Nusa Tenggara.
Three other suspected terrorists were killed in another raid in Dompu regency on Saturday at around 5:30 a.m. local time. As of Saturday afternoon, the police had yet to reveal the identities of the suspects, providing only the names Andi Berkeley, Roy and Bachtiar. The bodies will soon to be sent to Jakarta for autopsies
National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar confirmed that they were linked to a group allegedly involved in the recent Poso bomb plot and other security threats. “They were members of the Santoso group,” Boy told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
The suspects had been under police surveillance for two months.
Antara news agency reported that the five suspected terrorists fled Poso, Central Sulawesi, a few weeks ago to hide in Bima and Dompu in West Nusa Tenggara.
They used a cargo ship from Poso to reach Makassar, South Sulawesi, before continuing onto Sape Harbor in Bima.
The police also found a location believed to be a training ground for assembling bombs in Dompu and confiscated a 1.5-inch pipe bomb and materials commonly used to make bombs, including nails and urea nitrate.
A number of people were also arrested during the raids.
Earlier on Friday, two other suspected terrorists from the Santoso group were killed in a raid by Densus 88 in Makassar, South Sulawesi, while two others were arrested several hours later as they tried to escape.
The dead suspects have been identified as Syamsuddin alias Asmar alias Buswah, and Hasan, alias Kholiq.
The two were arrested near Daya market, Makassar, at 3 p.m. local time. One of the suspects was shot in the leg.
South Sulawesi Police head of public relations Sr. Comr. Endi Sutendi said they were active terrorists and had been on Densus 88’s wanted list.
