AKARTA: The Home Ministry says that the government is waiting for a vendor to finish work on more than 60 million electronic identity cards (e-ID).
Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi said when meeting lawmakers of the House of Representatives’ Commission II on home affairs on Monday that the State Printing Consortium Company (PNRI) appointed to print the e-IDs had yet to manufacturer 12 million e-ID cards or to print data on more than 48 million cards.
The PNRI had finished printing 175 million cards as of December, the minister said, claiming that the consortium was still on schedule.
Gamawan said that the firm’s contract would be extended to Oct. 31 to give it time to wrap up work.
According to the Home Ministry, the government had obtained 110 million of 175 million printed e-IDs, of which it had distributed 90 million.
The ministry has also claimed that the Rp 5.8 trillion (US$601.04 million) project had met or exceeded its targets for 2012.
