Your comments on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s meetings with a number of retired generals, including presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto, with whom the President is believed to have discussed the presidential succession next year:

These meetings have very much to do with all of us; either positively or otherwise!

We would like the meetings to be about something concretely positive for the people; for which we have waited too long.

These generals know so well that we miss the long abandoned four basic activities (PPPK) to activate national dynamic economic activities.

The first P would be (pendidikan) education; the second P is (pertanian) farming; the third P is (pariwisata) tourism; and the fourth K is (kesehatan) health.

We have shamefully abandoned if not neglected the PPPK with the result that the people become ever poorer by the day.

Generals, people are suffering greatly and this should not be unnecessarily prolonged; for it could easily lead to national disintegration.

The situation is indeed that precarious. Wake up!

President Yudhoyono lately experienced a lot of problems with his Democratic Party, a party which in my view is losing its credibility and therefore its chances in the next general election.

To boost his confidence SBY held meetings with some retired generals, who were his comrades in arms, also with some religious leaders and last but not least with prominent chief editors.

As the saying goes: A friend in need is a friend indeed.

In my opinion, the President would like to get support from a number of retired generals in order that he will be successful in nominating his preference for the presidential candidate.

I guess he has a candidate — maybe one of his relatives or his man in his organization — for the next election. I hope everything will be better for our country, no matter who is our next president.

End of PSSI dispute

The Indonesian Soccer Association’s (PSSI) extraordinary congress on Sunday resulted in an agreement to end the long-running soccer dispute. Parties involved agreed to unify the two separate leagues. What should they do to improve the performance of the national soccer team?
