Your comments on the agreement at the Indonesian Soccer Association’s (PSSI) extraordinary congress on Sunday to end the long-running soccer dispute in which the parties involved agreed to unify the two separate leagues and organizations:

The only way to improve the performance of national soccer is to improve the welfare of the people, no other way.

The two soccer bodies have done enough to damage the sport in this country. Will their unity bring a remedy?

The conflict has caused dismay not only to Indonesian fans but has also jeopardized the World Football Club Federation.

It is indeed quite heartening to see them united again to form a better and stronger league in the future.

Soccer was my sport during my childhood.

I personally wish the name of our national team could be changed to “Archipelago” to remind them of the unity they have to keep forging from Sabang to Merauke.

We should appreciate all the parties in Indonesian soccer, who could overcome their problems and agree on the unification of the two separate leagues.

I think, in the short term, they should improve the quality of the national team. They have to recall all of Indonesia’s talented players, optimize their skills and keep them in a solid team.

Indonesian soccer should be free from all kinds of political interests.

The state should give a decent salary to both players and the coaches and the PSSI should give a sense of comfort and safety for their future.

The coach should instill high discipline in all players. I believe Indonesian soccer can achieve a good performance.

Thank God, the PSSI is united again! The dispute among the factions was only a clash of prestige and image-building between the conflicting parties.

The main task of the united PSSI now is to develop and form a strong winning national soccer team.

We have to get rid of the system of short-cutting efforts by naturalization of foreign players.

Such a system has cost us a lot of money besides by-passing proper naturalization laws and we only get second-class players who don’t even speak our language.

It would be better to select some 50 players from our 220 million people, train them intensively and systematically to develop their mental, physical, technical and patriotic strength.

I am sure that within three years we would have a strong winning national squad.
